Guangdong HQC Inspection Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive third-party inspection, testing and certification organization. As a professional ISO 45001 certification consulting and occupational health and safety management system consulting firm, we provide full-scope guidance to help organizations establish, implement, and maintain robust Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems that protect workers, reduce workplace risks, and build a strong safety culture.
What is ISO 45001 Certification?
ISO 45001 is the internationally recognized standard for occupational health and safety management systems, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Published in 2018, it replaced OHSAS 18001 and is currently undergoing its first formal revision since its initial release. ISO 45001 provides a systematic framework for organizations to proactively improve OH&S performance, prevent work-related injuries and ill health, and provide safe and healthy workplaces.
ISO 45001 applies to organizations of any size, type, or industry, making it the global benchmark for workplace safety and employee wellbeing.
Why ISO 45001 Certification Matters:
Protect Your People – Systematically identify and control occupational health and safety risks to prevent workplace injuries and occupational diseases
Reduce Operational Risks – Lower accident costs, insurance premiums, and potential legal liabilities
Enhance Reputation – Demonstrate commitment to worker health and safety to customers, regulators, and the public
Competitive Advantage – Increasingly required by international buyers and tenders as a supplier qualification criterion
ISO 45001:2027 – What‘s Changing
ISO 45001 is currently undergoing a full revision, representing the first formal review since the standard was published in 2018. The Draft International Standard (DIS) ballot opened on 16 June 2026 and will close on 8 September 2026. The final version is expected to be published in mid-2027, followed by a three-year transition period.
Rather than a fundamental overhaul, the revision represents a targeted further development of existing requirements. Key changes include:
1. Mental Health & Psychosocial Risks – A central theme of the revision is the greater consideration of mental health and psychosocial risks, including work-related stress, high workloads, bullying, and burnout. Drawing from ISO 45003 guidance, organizations will be expected to treat workplace stress and harassment with the same rigor as physical hazards.
2. Workplace Wellbeing – The standard expands from traditional occupational health and safety to a more comprehensive understanding of workplace wellbeing and health-promoting working conditions.
3. Climate-Related Risks – Organizations must consider climate-related factors affecting worker safety, with references to ISO/PAS 45007 on OH&S risks arising from climate change.
4. New Ways of Working – Inclusion of hybrid models, remote work, and digital environments, supported by ISO/CD 45008 on remote working guidelines.
5. Safety Culture – Strengthened emphasis on preventive safety culture and proactive risk management.
6. Diversity & Inclusivity – Increased recognition of different workforce groups, including gender, age, disability, and worker-specific needs.
7. Supply Chain Responsibility – Enhanced expectations for managing OH&S risks in outsourced activities and supply chains.
8. Leadership & Accountability – Stronger emphasis on top management engagement and oversight.
9. Digitalization & AI – Consideration of technological evolution, including artificial intelligence in workplace safety.
The revision integrates references to multiple supporting ISO guidelines, including ISO 45003 (psychosocial risks), ISO 45006 (infectious diseases), ISO/PAS 45007 (climate change), and ISO/CD 45008 (remote working).
