BCI Certification Consulting Services

Guangdong HQC Inspection Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive third-party inspection, testing and certification organization. As a professional BCI certification consulting and BCI audit consulting firm, we provide full-scope Better Cotton Initiative certification guidance and Chain of Custody (CoC) consulting to help textile and apparel enterprises successfully pass BCI certification and access international brand supply chains.

What is BCI Certification?

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is the world‘s largest sustainable cotton standard system, established in 2005 in Geneva, Switzerland. BCI has over 2,600 members globally, including Adidas, GAP, H&M, and IKEA. The initiative promotes sustainable agriculture practices across environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic viability.

BCI certification operates through two key standards:

Principles & Criteria (P&C) – For cotton farmers, defining environmental compliance and social responsibility requirements at field level

Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard – For supply chain actors, ensuring supply chain traceability of BCI Cotton from farm to final product

Why BCI Certification Matters:

Global Market Access – A mandatory requirement for entering major apparel and retail groups in Europe and North America

Sustainable Supply Chain – Demonstrates commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable development

Full Traceability – Ensures product origin transparency through Mass Balance and Physical BCI Cotton models

BCI Cotton Label – Certified retailers and brands sourcing Physical BCI Cotton from a fully certified supply chain can use the BCI Cotton Label, indicating products contain over 30% Physical BCI Cotton

Certification Milestone – As of January 2026, every supply chain actor sourcing Physical BCI Cotton has been certified

2026 BCI Certification Key Updates

1. CoC-MAC V1.2 Fully Effective

The Chain of Custody Monitoring and Certification Procedures V1.2 (CoC-MAC V1.2) was released on August 15, 2025, and became fully effective on November 1, 2025. Core changes include:

Transition Rules – No mixing of V1.1 and V1.2; all applications and audits from November 1, 2025, must use V1.2

Multi-Site Certification – Geographic restrictions fully eliminated; global applicability for multi-site enterprises

BCP Transaction Requirements – Purchases confirmed within 60 days; sales recorded within 60 days of shipment

Subcontractor Audits – On-site audits now mandatory for subcontractors

2. ISO 17065 Accreditation & Certification Model

BCI has been formally recognized as an ISO 17065 compliant certification scheme by organizations including the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS), with over 50 certification bodies now accredited. BCI officially became a certification scheme in February 2025, with over 3,000 supply chain actors certified as of January 2026.

3. Brand Identity Upgrade

BCI restored its original name “Better Cotton Initiative” in October 2025, with a new visual identity and logo. The old logo must be fully phased out by January 1, 2026.
