Indoor Furniture Inspection: A Key Defense Line for Export Quality Control

Indoor furniture is an export category with high order values, high logistics costs, and difficult complaint handling. Solid wood cracking, lifted edge banding on panel furniture, missing hardware, unstable structures, jammed drawers, and misaligned door panels—once discovered at the destination port—can result in rework and return costs that consume the entire order's profit.

As a China inspection company with CMA, CNAS, ISO/IEC 17020, and ISO 9001 accreditations, Guangdong China Inspection and Testing Co., Ltd. (HQC Inspection) provides professional third party inspection China services covering seating, tables, storage cabinets and shelving, bedroom furniture, children's indoor furniture, and other indoor furniture. Our inspectors conduct on-site inspection strictly per AQL and ISO 2859-1:2026 standards—delivering full-process quality control in China from early production through pre-shipment for export factories, cross-border sellers, and brand buyers.

Core On-Site Inspection Items

Our quality inspection in China services cover the following core items:

1. Appearance & Workmanship Inspection

Basic appearance: color shading, scratches, sags, blistering, orange peel, and paint peeling. For panel furniture, strict inspection of edge banding for cracking or lifting—edge banding defects can cause moisture, mold, and swelling of the board.

Material appearance: fabric for burn marks, wrinkles, reversed sides, and yarn pulling; leather for mold spots, color shading, cracks, and peeling; metal for burrs, wear marks, deformation, and rust; plastic for cracking, deformation, insufficient filling, and uneven thickness; wood for mold, dead knots, and live knots.

Component fit: loose parts or detached components, open seams, poor seams, poor stitching, metal frame deformation, and incorrect rivets/welding on hardware.

Color shading judgment: overall appearance color shading and color consistency of similar assembled components, compared against approved samples.

2. On-Site Physical Performance & Structural Safety Inspection

Structural stability on-site check: shaking, pushing, and load-bearing tests for cabinets, tables, chairs, and beds—evaluating anti-tipping capability and structural integrity during normal use. Check whether all four legs sit flat; even a one-millimeter wobble is unacceptable.

Connector and fastener inspection: screws, bolts, cam locks, and connectors tightened properly without missing, wrong, or stripped assembly; drawers and doors open smoothly without jamming, abnormal noise, or sagging.

Hardware on-site function inspection: handles, hinges, slides, locks, and lifting devices operated on-site—checking opening smoothness, locking reliability, and reset accuracy.

Chamfer and burr inspection: all hand-accessible edges must be smooth without unsanded wood splinters or sharp metal edges.

Enclosed furniture safety inspection: per GB 28007-2024, checking ventilation openings, locking devices, and operating devices to prevent children from being trapped.

Wood moisture content on-site testing: using a portable moisture meter to sample multiple points on solid wood furniture. For export products, wood moisture content is strictly controlled between 8% and 12%, or adjusted based on destination port climate. Excessive moisture content causes rapid shrinkage and cracking upon arrival.

On-site odor assessment: for upholstered and panel furniture—evaluating irritating odors. Products with obvious abnormal odors are directly rejected.

3. Dimension & Tolerance Inspection

Furniture length, width, and height tolerances must be controlled within ±3mm. On-site cross-measurement of cabinet or tabletop diagonals—if diagonal deviation exceeds 5mm, drawers will jam, door panels will misalign, or gaps will be asymmetrical when assembled overseas. Use tape measures, squares, and levels to measure key dimensions against order requirements.

4. Label & Packaging Inspection

Label verification: product identification, material marking, origin information, applicable standard number, and safety warnings complete and compliant. Children's furniture requires age warning labels.

Packaging protection: inner packaging, outer carton shipping marks, packing quantity, moisture/vibration prevention, and corner protection.

Outer carton and packing verification: preventing short-packing, missing items, mixed packing, and wrong style shipment.

Inspection Methods & AQL Standards

We offer flexible production inspection service options:

·        Pre-Production Inspection (PPI) — Confirming first article workmanship, function, and appearance before mass production

·        During Production Inspection (DPI/DUPRO) — In-process sampling to detect and correct issues early

·        Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) — AQL sampling before shipment

·        100% Full Inspection — Piece-by-piece inspection for high-value, high-reputation, premium indoor furniture

Our third party quality inspection strictly follows AQL and ISO 2859-1:2026, with sampling plans per ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 normal inspection single sampling:

Defect Level

AQL

Judgment

Critical

AQL 0

Safety hazard   or total unusability — 1 found = batch rejection

Major

AQL 2.5

Significant   appearance or function impact — likely return

Minor

AQL 4.0

Appearance   defects not affecting usability

Typical defect classification for indoor furniture: Accessible sharp points/edges, packaging material information mismatch = Critical; severe structural cracking, metal frame deformation, poor hardware welding = Major; minor sanding marks, rough surface = Minor.
